Obey the Law or Pay the Penalty – Why all fleet operators must adopt electronic vehicle checks

The current process for vehicle checks is flawed. Fleet managers rely heavily on their drivers to complete and return paper based inspections. Failure to do so leads to hefty fines, driver suspensions, vehicle impounding or even prosecution against the vehicle owner.

Failure to deal with vehicle faults has resulted in a number of cases where the DVSA has penalised companies:

• On October 6th 2014 a school bus in Pontypool was pulled over by the DVSA. Their report showed that the vehicle had multiple defects. As the operator was unable to provide any audit on vehicle checks, the bus was taken off the road and the operator disqualified.

• On October 10th 37 Lorries were stopped and checked. 16 of them were taken off the road immediately.

• On October 22nd the DVSA pulled over 36 vehicles and found 16 separate offences resulting in £3,000 worth of fines.

The above offences could have been prevented by using the AllOnMobile product. If the driver recorded a fault then the Fleet Manager would immediately be notified by the system. This automatic action would enable the company to take the appropriate measures to ensure that the vehicle was fit for purpose prior to starting work.
